Overworlds & Underworlds - The Deep 2012
Choreographed by Gary Clarke
Dancer
Overworlds and Underworlds was a large multi-location project for the Cultural Olympiad created by the Quay Brothers working in collaboration with Leeds Canvas, a consortium of local arts groups. It mixed installation, sculpture, film, dance performance, and, above all else, atmosphere.
The Deep was a durational dance theatre piece for 6 women that took place in Leeds’ Dark Arches; an amazing subterranean space where underground rivers run below brick-lined gothic arches which stretch into the distance as part of the Underworld element of the event
“There is no beginning, middle or end but rather a state of constant flow, sound, water, people.” Quay brothers
The Deep, also later referred to as The Aquatic Caberet, was reworked to be performed in shop windows for the Big Dance Festival in Liverpool
